Personal Safety
Family Support Professionals needed a training to prepare them to make home visits that sometimes present potential danger to their safety unless they are prepared.
The training needed to:
1. Address issues they face and provide opportunities to practice experience-born solutions in context. Strike a balance between informing but not scaring the learner about potential job dangers.
2. Encourage engagement to foster high levels of understanding for critical skills.
3. Speak directly to the learner in their role and responsibilities.
Solutions:
1. Structured the training to mirror how the learner moves sequentially through the course of a work day, i.e. before, during, and after a visit.
2. Provided realistic but fun scenarios with a problem/solution motif and representational characters to challenge them apply knowledge and skills presented to promote personal safety and the safety of their clients.
3. Included gamification to apply skills learned for uniquely and potentially dangerous situations that require more critical and specific practice.
